Barry Berth Information

The port of Barry consists of three docks, No 1, No 2, and No 3.

A guide to the criteria governing ship acceptance is show in the Ship Acceptance Table for Barry (please click on the link).

Number three dock is the basin entrance from sea for vessels with a maximum beam of 24.0 metres (Vessels over 24.0 metres will only be accepted with the Dock and Harbour Master’s prior approval) The length of the basin is 200 metres mitre to mitre, the maximum length vessel accepted would be subject to several considerations and would be examined on an individual basis. This entrance is only used when the Lady Windsor lock is unavailable or if the vessels beam exceeds 19.2 metres.

The West Side of the basin is a lay-by berth of 180 metres, the East Side is a general cargo berth of the same length with sheds consisting of both general cargo and cool store facilities.

There is a Ro-Ro berth in the SE corner.
This basin is tidal and the gates are normally shut just before HW.
The basin inner gates give access to No 1 dock.

Lady Windsor Lock

This is the normal entrance to Barry and can accept vessels of up to 19.2 metres beam. It is nominally open from four hours before HW to four hours after HW.

No 1 Dock

No 1 dock has quays of approximately 600 metres on its south side, which, mainly consists of lay-up and repair berths. The mole is now disused as are all the berths on the north side with the exception of one berth “Enterprise Quay” which is used as a hospitality berth for visiting non-commercial vessels.

No 2 Dock

No 2 dock is entered through the junction cut. It has berths along its SE side of a total of 1000 metres consisting of steel, timber, and general cargo berths, a grain silo, and with chemical berths at the eastern end. There is a scrap metal berth on the north side and a Ro-Ro berth in the north corner.

The nominal depth alongside in both No 1 and No 2 docks is 9.2 metres, although this may be less during neap tides.
