Newport Berth Information
Minimum Heights of Tide for Docking.
A guide to the criteria governing ship acceptance is shown in the Ship Acceptance Table for Newport (please click on the link).
1/Clearing outer cill before High Water (Rising Tide) Vessel maximum draft plus 2.44 metres. 2/Clearing outer cill after High Water (Falling Tide) Vessel maximum draft plus 3.0 metres. These allowances are related to outer cill, which is constructed at a depth lower than the approach channel, so ensuring that a vessel capable of clearing the approach channel should not be at risk of damaging the concrete structure. It should be noted that dock tidal predictions are based on a datum 1.72 metres below Admiralty chart datum. It follows that 0.78 metres (before HW) and 1.28 metres (after HW) should be added to the maximum draft in order to establish the minimum height required when applied to Chart Number 1176. These allowances are made to take account of the shape of the approach channel. SOUTH QUAYEffective length is 1060 metres. Separated into 6 sections with distance between bollards of 30.5 metres.
